Assorted thoughts on assorted subjects

I think it's odd the Chinese have become so crazy nationalist with their economic growth. Even some of the officers of the the People's Liberation Army say that a war with the US is inevitable within 10 or 20 years. The Taiwan conflict will almost certainly start it.

If China is the next hegemonic power and thereby the police of world stability, what kind of governments will they take sides with? Will they embrace the democratic values in the upcoming decades, or side with the most economically viable ones?

First Fridays at the Natural History Museum are my new favorite thing about Los Angeles.

500 of the city’s smartest and most stylish hipsters collapsing into fits of belligerence amongst some darn cool dinosaurs, and listening to some darn good music. Could only have been made better via cocktails featuring pre-historic puns (T-Rex on the Beach, anyone?)

I’m not sure how many times I overheard “Ohmygod I can’t believe I’m drinking in a museum!” - but the scandalous appeal of sippin’ champagne in the diorama halls is not lost on those who were never cool in high school. I kept waiting to get written up by some grouchy ghost of an Honors Biology teacher, but even when my Ivy League-educated friends spilled beer all over the gorgeous marble flooring of the American Mammals exhibit, and then the African, and then very nearly all over a tasteful display of Grizzly Bear taxidermy – no detention. Not even a phone call home to my parents.

Oh yeah, and there was music. The night started with Them Jeans and Ana Calderon spinning a perfect mix of my all-time favorite soul, rock’n’roll, and post-punk hits. The Kinks, The Jackson Five, Joy Division, Blondie, and Talking Heads were a small part of literally the best DJ set I’ve ever heard that I wasn’t in on. Them either stole my iPod or I’ve been going to all the wrong parties, and I’m thinking the latter - but drinks were cheap so it’s a tough call. Speaking of $4 Stellas, I missed Warpaint because I was some combination of late, drunk, and busy lusting after Incan relics. But whatevs, I’ll catch their Cat Power rip-offs at Coachella, along with Yeasayer, whose new album is only partially good. “Love Me Girl” sounds fantastic live, and might be my favorite track off Odd Blood. Listen in, and buy your tickets early for next month’s First Friday, featuring Deer Tick. Haven’t listened to them yet, but assuming they sound like Deerhunter or Deerhoof, I’m in.

WHO IS GOING?

Happy new years from Oklahoma!

I'm covered in confetti and my ears are ringing.

The Flaming Lips were awesome.

Goodnight.

Smoking pot makes me not want to kill myself; Or what's everyone doing for New Years?

So then, me being me, I've already past Christmas Day (which I'm celebrating here in Portland, Oregon with my girlfriends family), and am eagerly looking forward to New Years, where I'll be rocking out/tripping maaajor balls at:

Exciting? Hell yes,

What is everyone else doing for New Years?

So, I'm re-vamping my journal.

So I decided after thinking it over, that the ol' journal needs a new face, as I've had, really, less and less to say about things in my life. Alright then?

I've been in san diego all of one day and this is what i find

SDSU coeds with velour sweat pants stuffed into Ugg boots with the word

Re: public

Not a problem. It's kind of lengthy so it would be hell to post via my phone (which is how I do the majority of my melo) but next time I get to a computer it'll be the first to go up

Re: public

yes yes, this year is a bit lacking, compared to previous years, but i have a few bands I'm excited about. The real fun will be in discovering some new bands. For those meloers who decide not to go, I'll make sure to post some pictures

Re: public

Greetings from that tour-thing. Coachella looks pretty good, but this year's lineup doesn't really entice me enough to attempt traveling cross-country to attend.

Yeah! I like the way this gigantic page of text does everything the Wall does, and better, without the drama of usernames. It's like a gigantic playground, lol.

Re: COACHELLA 2010

Yeah see I only like maybe 10 bands out of all three days... so for me it's hard to be all amped up about it. But it's a ways away maybe I'll find more of a reason to go. I always hear great things about the shows and the bands that go.
