Sweet Home Chicago
Leaving for Chicago today and I haven't been in years. Should be a blast.

Brain Dead Entry
I just finished practicing my horn for a few hours. I want to keep going, my sound is fucking fantastic right now. However, my brain is pretty fried... so working on stuff doesn't seem like it'd be very effective.
My knee hurts.
I applied for a job at BevMo. I hope I get it. Their website says they are actually hiring and I think I'd be a good fit there. I definitely know a lot about beer.
Speaking of which, 2 reviews are going to be coming soon. One is Dogfish Head 60minute IPA. I'm drinking one right now. It's very tasty. Dogfish Head is one of the most respected craft breweries in the nation, so it's to be expected this is good. I need to get my hands on their Bitches Brew, a beer they made to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Miles' album of the same name.
The other is from a local place that is quickly becoming renown for their intense Belgium style beers, The Bruery. I have some of their rye ale left. I only had a quick taste the other night, expect a full review tonight or the next.
Man, I'm really getting into this beer reviewing thing. Someone should start paying me for this.
I'm debating on whether I should go to a show tonight. On one hand, it's my (former?) teacher and he's an awesome player and it's his own project thing. On the other, its kinda far away and I'm not feeling too motivated at the moment.
we shall see

Good news, bad news
Good news: I have $0.00 in credit card debt!
Bad news: there is enough room on my credit card to buy something stupid expensive! Like a new bike!
Good news: Mary Ellen and I have been going out for 365 days.
Bad news: Uhm... none actually.

Today
Went to the driving range this morning, it's been an extremely long time. The pretty shots are still pretty. The ugly ones are uglier than I care to remember.
Getting ready for a pickup soccer game tonight at the old high school. Should be fun, we've been doing it for over a month now. We often get about 20 people. Very cool.
I will have beer #2 for you tonight as well, if you're interested. I'll probably also set up it's own folder tonight too.
Cheers

More Cycling
Went to Stage 6 of the Tour of California. Got to see my favorite cyclists. No Lance though, he crashed out the day before. Oh well.
Hopefully that link will work. Enjoy. I'll be back whining on melo regularly soon I think.

Kurt Vonnegut
Strapped for cash in the mid-1950s, Kurt Vonnegut took a job at Sports Illustrated, though he "didn't care or know squat about sports."
They asked him to write a piece on a racehorse that had jumped the fence at the local track.
He fed a page into his typewriter, stared at it for several hours, typed "The horse jumped over the fucking fence" and left.
If this is true, it just further cements Mr. Vonnegut as one of the greatest humans ever.

Greatest Detective of All Time
That's right, its Columbo. Sherlock Holmes can lick a dick. Adrian Monk is a basket case. Law & Order ain't got shit on Lt. Columbo. Jessica Fletcher? Bitch please. Hercule Poirot is a nobody! Jim Rockford is cool, but not in the same league.
Lt. Columbo is untouchable.

Spaten's Oktoberfest is pretty classic. It is the official brew of Oktoberfest afterall. It's been a while since I've had it, so I can't do a head to head comparison right now.
Eventually I'll sort all that out when I go to Oktoberfest. I must go someday.
Employees ride their bikes to work, and they have a Tour de Fat every year. And they're working to Save the Colorado River. And they're wind powered (solar was close!).
Yeah, their culture is awesome.
I'll definitely have to try more after this one. Also, if memory serves, their brewery is extremely green. Solar powered and a whole bunch of other stuff. Good news
New Belgium makes some great beer, I'll tell you what!
Hmmm, Paulaner. Sounds familiar. I'm really happy that you liked it.
If the winds ever make our paths cross, I sure hope we enjoy some time over a beer or twelve. :]
Hmmm...the Holy Grail of Beer. I'm a'liking that phrase. There are no beers like it, whatsoever. At all.
BTW, I had a great hef tonight: Paulaner's Hef. Fantastic. Full bodies, with some great earthy undertones to the summer freshness. :o)
I've never understood the passion people have for Yuengling. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but lots of people swear it's the holy grail of beer.
Then again, I'll never understand why people enjoy baseball, Coors Light, or pop music. So maybe I'm just silly.
You know, I've never been super impressed with Sierra Nevadas. I mean, they're good and all, but I've never been blown away by one.
And I'd never ask my mom to drive me out some or my dad to check some in his luggage like I might've done with Yuengling...
mmmm...they look awesome. I live in Portland, so I get spoiled by craft brews left and right. I love just going to pubs and tasting rooms and finding random 5gallon batches of stuff that are on tap until the 5g are gone and then never again to be tasted. Some awesome sour beer here (it is the current fad at the moment). It is probably also why I love IPA's. I do want to taste the 'snicklefritz' pretty badly though. Man, I just love beer.
Sour beers? Check out stuff from The Bruery if you haven't already. They make some funky Belgian style beers and won some awards at the World Beer Cup recently. The guys who run it are pretty cool too, got to meet them a few months ago.
Hmmm...I do like Sierra Nevada's beer and I'm not a fan of Hefs (I like Widmere's Hef as a Hef, instead of just a random beer, for example). Maybe this would sit better for my palette. Then again, I prefer IPA's and Sour beers.
You should make posts on Alcoholic Pride... lol
Hmm...this one sounds nice. I'm not usually a witbier kind of girl, but then again this is summer! I think the only wheat I've liked is Shock Top, and even that can only be consumed in small doses. Oh, and Leinie's Sunshine Wheat, but that tastes like fruity pebbles, so it doesn't count.
I love Beer Time with James!
Hunter S. Thompson was a great mad man, people don't give much respect to him.
Anywho, I really like how you described the brew you are drinking.
Even though I am much more into Whiskey or Malt Liquor, I enjoyed reading this and looking at that picture!
Makes me want to go grab a cold one, oh wait--I got one!
Just passing by, peace.
I'm quite certain that melo is going to turn into a beer journal. More detailed opinions of what I'm drinking and better pictures. We'll see.
It is a good choice. I'm a total beer snob now. Anyways, I've also found this, hope you enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wqplKtzWpI
beautiful family....i played flute and tenor for years. i miss it.....a lot. :(
Ugh!!! If he's going to look at porn in the middle of a congress session, he'd better accept the responsibility of WATCHING PORN DURING CONGRESSIONAL DELIBERATIONS! The whole linked article, where he threatened to get the journalist fired, is such bullshit! If you don't want to be caught looking at porn, DON'T look at porn!
Why is our state so stupid?? lol
I'm doing well. Finally graduating... my senior recital is on the 7th. Should be a blast, playing some really fun tunes. Especially Chris Potter's song Train. I love playing that song, you should check him out when you can. I was just down in Florida myself during spring break. I miss Sarasota already. The food is spectacular. Speaking of food, I really need to get some lunch. Till next time :]
Thanks! I've been trying to eat soft food since day 1...I'm really not a big fan of ice cream. I know, blasphemy. I think I've had more ice cream in the last 48 hours than I have in the last year. My list of good foods include mac & cheese, potatoes, ground beef, soups, and applesauce/bananas. And starting tomorrow I can have more stuff, as long as it isn't chewy or sharp. No dry sockets for me!
But yeah, Vicoden has been a real help...now it's time to wean off of it so I can actually enjoy some Yuengling while in Florida!
How are you?? We haven't chatted in FOREVER!
I'm sure he's still crying somewhere...and it's Monday. He should play in the Kleenex Bowl!
Oh I know I can handle it, I'm just not looking forward to it--especially since I thought my flight was at 9:30!
I don't think melo would feel right without that scary feeling that your totally awesome post just might disappear.
Skiing was fun! I need to get back into it more...if I get good again, like I was, I can probably teach both and make more moolah. Which is always awesome...
Thanks :o)
Yeah, I was shaken up, luckily not hurt (just a bit sore from stress and tensing up). Halloween helped to relax, that's for sure. :o)
How was your Halloween, by the way? And how's Girl?

Oktoberfest = most ridiculous (fun) experience of your life. I dont think anything could ever prepare you for it.
